Zimmer South Africa Commitment to Continuous Education
Studio 73
Trabecular Metal™ Masterclass
11 April 2007
Zimmer South Africa is committed to enhancing surgeon education. The
Company does this by running leading-edge, international educational
programmes where local surgeons are able to meet, interact with and exchange
experiences with their international colleagues.
South African surgeons may already be familiar with the Masterclass concept, which enjoyed great success in 2005 and 2006. They have become a vital part of Zimmer South Africa’s broad education concept and serve to present a very specific product to an exclusive group of surgeons.
This year Zimmer South Africa hosted The Trabecular Metal Masterclass at the very exclusive location “The Venue” at Melrose Arch on the 11th April 2007.
The Masterclass has provided Orthopaedic Surgeons with a comprehensive
understanding of the unique manufacturing technique, the physical and
mechanical properties of the Trabecular Metal material, and the
design rationale and clinical results for the Trabecular Metal
Reconstructive Implants. There were two international guests at this
meeting; Dr. Thomas J. O’Keefe from the USA, Ann Arbor in Michigan who has
several years of clinical experience with Trabecular Metal Hip and
Knee Implants, and the second guest Dr. Claude Bernard Rieker from
Switzerland has over 10 years experience in the Research & Development of
Trabecular Metal Implants.
Our Invited South African guests were Dr. Piet Botha, (Chariman) Dr. Micheal
Barrow (Guest Speaker) and our panel Dr. Allan van Zyl, Dr. Charl Olivier,
Dr. Dick van der Jagt and Dr. Jan Venter.
Once again Zimmer received outstanding feedback on a very successful meeting from all surgeons attending the Masterclass. With a 98% attendance rate and 97.6% surgeon feedback satisfaction rate, Zimmer has once again raised the level to which educational meetings are set.
The evening was closed by Steven Orange, Country Manager of Zimmer South Africa thanking everyone involved for their commitment to the quality of the meeting and the outstanding attendance of the surgeons.
Zimmer South Africa would like to thank each and every surgeon for the
support throughout the year and we are looking forward to being your host at
our next Masterclass in 2008.
