PorolockTi VPS

The Porolock™- Ti VPS, a coating of pure titanium is applied to the outer surface of the acetabular component using an advanced vacuum plasma spray technology developed by Sulzer Metco, a Swiss based surface technology leader. Laboratory tests have demonstrated an adhesive strength of 66.2 - 76.5 MPa, this is significantly exceeding the FDA requirements of 22 MPa.

The same adhesive strength test of the Porolock Ti VPS surface on a CoCr substrate using a test set up simulating adverse conditions resulted in 31.6 - 63.2 MPa, still exceeding the FDA requirement.
